PRASA will investigate KZN train, truck collision

Durban – The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) will investigate a collision between a train and the truck trailer that injured 11 people, KwaZulu-Natal spokesperson Zama Nomnganga said on Friday.

“We will be conducting an investigation, together with the truck company. Police are investigating with us as well,” Nomnganga said.

The train crashed into the truck’s trailer near Fairfield Road in Northdene on Friday.

Nomnganga said the train dragged the trailer “for some distance”.

“At this stage it seems like the driver of the truck did not know the height of the overhead cables and tangled his vehicle in it. He unhooked the main part of the truck. Unfortunately the train crashed into the trailer that had
remained.”

Nomnganga said passengers were not seriously injured.
